Efforts of our presidents to fight for Human Rights

Mr. Rishikesh Shah was a distinguished scholar-statesman whose remarkable life encompassed diplomacy, politics, education, writing, and human rights activism. He is remembered not only as a national leader of stature but also as a visionary who connected Nepal with the wider world. As the founding President of the Human Rights Organization of Nepal (HURON) from 1988 to 1996, Shah played a historic role in shaping Nepal’s democratic trajectory.

Professor Kapil Shrestha was elected as the second President of the Human Rights Organization of Nepal (HURON) by the 5th National Convention in 1996, serving until 2000.

Mr. Sudip Pathak was elected as the third President of the Human Rights Organization of Nepal (HURON) by the 6th National Convention and served from 2000 to 2015.

Mr. Charan Prasai, a human rights defender, served as Acting President of HURON from 2004 to 2006, during Nepal’s turbulent period of armed conflict and political transition. He strengthened HURON’s advocacy for justice, accountability, and human rights protection.

Mr. Indra Prasad Aryal is an advocate and distinguished criminal law expert with an extensive career in human rights activism. He was elected as the fourth President (1st term) of the Human Rights Organization of Nepal (HURON) by the 13th National Convention and later as the sixth President (2nd term) by the 15th National Convention.
